Why Rajasthani Families Choose Seattle
Seattle’s Rajasthani community arrived primarily on H-1B visas to Microsoft’s Redmond campus and Amazon’s Bellevue and Kirkland offices — giving this community a distinctly tech-professional character not found in the commercial Marwari corridors of New Jersey or Chicago. Engineers, product managers, and program managers from Jaipur, Jodhpur, Kota, and Udaipur have built careers here and settled permanently on the Eastside. While the Marwari business tradition is present through the Maheshwari Association, it is secondary to the tech economy as the community’s organizing force.
The Eastside suburbs offer large homes, top-rated school districts (Bellevue, Issaquah, Lake Washington), and proximity to nature — qualities that resonate strongly with Rajasthani families accustomed to wide-open landscapes. The concentration of Indian infrastructure in the Bellevue-Redmond corridor — temples, groceries, Hindi language schools — reduces the friction of maintaining cultural ties while living far from Rajasthan.
RASA (Rajasthan Association of Seattle America) provides the cultural anchor, organizing Gangaur, Teej, and Makar Sankranti celebrations that maintain Rajasthani identity in the Pacific Northwest. The Pacific Northwest Maheshwari and Rajasthani Association, affiliated with MMNA nationally, serves the Marwari sub-community specifically with matrimonial, mentorship, and business networking access through MMNA’s 5,000+ member national network.
Where Rajasthani Families Live
The Rajasthani/Marwari community in Seattle is an Eastside community — concentrated on the eastern shore of Lake Washington, close to the tech campuses that drew them here. Unlike NJ or Chicago, there is no dedicated Indian commercial strip, but the Eastside has dense Indian infrastructure across four key suburbs.
Bellevue — The Cultural and Commercial Hub (6,615 Hindi speakers (ACS 2022))
Bellevue is the undisputed Indian capital of the Seattle metro and the primary address for Rajasthani families. The Crossroads neighborhood along the NE 20th Street corridor (14xxx NE 20th St) has the highest density of Indian restaurants, grocery stores, and services in the metro. The Bellevue Hindu Temple and Cultural Center at 14320 NE 21st St is the community worship hub. Swagath Indian Grocery (14504 NE 20th St) and Apna Bazar (2245 148th Ave NE) anchor grocery shopping. RASA events frequently use Bellevue-area venues for community gatherings.
Redmond — The Microsoft Neighborhood (4,761 Hindi speakers (ACS 2022))
Microsoft’s global headquarters at One Microsoft Way drives heavy Indian tech professional settlement in Redmond. The VEDA Sri Venkateswara Temple at 7305 208th Ave NE serves the broader Hindu community here. The Parshavdham Jain Center (JCOWS) at 20515 NE Union Hill Rd is the primary Jain center on the Eastside — critical for Rajasthani Jain families. Swagath Indian Grocery has a second location at 18001 NE 76th St. The Redmond Senior Center at 8703 160th Ave NE hosts RASA’s annual Gangaur festival.
Sammamish & Issaquah — The Family Suburbs (4,481 Hindi speakers (ACS 2022))
Sammamish attracts Rajasthani families seeking larger homes and the top-rated Issaquah School District. The suburb is quieter and more residential than Bellevue or Redmond, with fewer Indian services — but Apna Bazar Sammamish (516 228th Ave NE) serves daily grocery needs. Issaquah, immediately adjacent, is home to Rajdhani Thali Restaurant (670 NW Gilman Blvd) — the only dedicated Rajasthani restaurant in the entire Seattle metro and a destination for the whole community regardless of which suburb they live in.
Bothell & Mill Creek — The Northern Eastside (3,247 Hindi speakers (ACS 2022))
Bothell is the northernmost cluster of Indian settlement on the Eastside, popular with families working at Amazon’s Redmond and Kirkland operations or at tech companies in the corridor along SR-522. Indian commercial infrastructure here is less developed than Bellevue-Redmond, but proximity to the Eastside core makes it viable for families willing to drive. A growing suburb for newer arrivals priced out of central Bellevue.
Rajasthani Organizations in Seattle
Rajasthan Association of Seattle America (RASA)
RASA is the primary Rajasthani cultural organization in the Seattle metro — the main community hub for anyone from Rajasthan now living in the Pacific Northwest. Founded to “Preserve | Promote | Heritage | Culture | Language of Rajasthan,” RASA organizes at least three major annual celebrations: the Grand Gangaur Festival (spring), Teej (monsoon/August), and Makar Sankranti (January). RASA’s 2025 Gangaur celebration was held at Redmond Senior Center on March 22 and featured a Royal Gangaur Procession with decorated Gangaur Mata idols, Ghoomar and folk dances, traditional Rajasthani attire, Dal Baati Churma, and charitable activities. The association also runs food drives and blanket drives. RASA’s Instagram (@rasa_seattle, 1,216 followers) is the fastest way to stay current on upcoming events. Community demographic: tech-professional, active, younger skew compared to commercial Rajasthani communities in NJ or Chicago.
Pacific Northwest Maheshwari and Rajasthani Association / MMNA Northwest Chapter
This EIN-registered nonprofit (EIN: 82-4223142) based in Bellevue is the local chapter of the Maheshwari Mahasabha of North America (MMNA) — a national organization with 5,000+ members across 11 North American chapters, founded 1983. It specifically serves the Maheshwari sub-community of Marwari identity, organizing Teej, Gangaur, Mahesh Nawami, Holi, and Diwali in line with MMNA’s national calendar. For Maheshwari and Marwari families, membership in this association connects you to MMNA’s national network, which includes matrimonial services, mentorship programs, and the Sakhi women’s initiative (focused on Gangaur, Teej, and Rajasthani cultural programming for women). Northwest Chapter page: mmna.org/chapters/09-north-west/. Note: RANA (Rajasthan Alliance of North America) does not have a Seattle chapter — its chapters are in New York, Los Angeles, Houston, and Chicago only.
Hindu Temples & Jain Centers
Seattle has no dedicated Pushti Marg or Shrinathji temple — an important distinction for Marwari/Gujarati Vaishnav families who follow the Vallabhacharya tradition. Known US Shrinathji temples are in New Jersey, Texas, Arizona, and Georgia — not Washington State. Rajasthani worshippers in Seattle use the pan-Hindu Eastside temples, and Jain families have two strong centers in Redmond.

The primary Jain worship venue on the Eastside, serving Digambar and Shvetambar families. Many Marwari families are Jain by tradition — this is their center for Paryushan, Das Lakshan, and regular religious activities. Located near Redmond’s tech corridor.
Jain Society of Seattle (JSS)
Website: jainsocietyofseattle.org | Founded: 2002 | Facebook: facebook.com/JainSocietyofSeattleJSS
A second Jain organization in the greater Seattle area, featuring traditional Jain architecture, carved idols, meditation and prayer space, and a Bhojanshala (vegetarian communal dining hall). Hosts regular prayers, religious discourses, meditation sessions, and Jain festival celebrations. Jain Marwari families in Seattle have two active centers — an unusually strong Jain infrastructure for a community this size.

Signature dishes include Dal Baati Churma (dense wheat balls, crispy outside, soaked in ghee, served with chana and moong dal) — the dish RASA featured at Gangaur — and the Rajasthani Thali To Go (appetizer + 4 entrées + Roti + Poori + Khichdi + Rice + Dessert). Rasoi Indian Restaurant — Bellevue

A Bellevue Eastside option for days when the drive to Rajdhani isn’t in the cards.
Indian Grocery Stores on the Eastside
Indian grocery infrastructure on the Eastside is strong. All staple Rajasthani pantry ingredients — besan, ker sangri, moth beans, bajra, jowar, Rajasthani spice blends, and ghee in large quantities — are reliably available.

Hindi Language Schools
No Rajasthani/Marwari-language class exists in the Seattle area — mirroring the national pattern. Hindi is the heritage language of choice for Rajasthani children in Seattle.

Arts, Culture & Festivals
RASA’s Annual Festival Calendar
RASA organizes three confirmed annual celebrations. The Grand Gangaur Festival (spring) is the signature event — held in 2025 at Redmond Senior Center (8703 160th Ave NE) on March 22, it drew the Rajasthani community for a Royal Gangaur Procession with decorated Gangaur Mata idols, Ghoomar and folk dance performances, traditional Rajasthani attire, and authentic Rajasthani cuisine. Teej (monsoon season, typically August) celebrates the monsoon and womanhood with songs, swings, and traditional sweets. Makar Sankranti (January) marks the harvest with kite-flying and sesame sweets. RASA also runs community service drives throughout the year. Follow @rasa_seattle on Instagram for event announcements and ticketing.
Rang Rasiya Dance Academy
Website: rangrasiya.net | Service area: Bellevue, Seattle, Redmond, Bothell, Issaquah
The leading Indian folk dance company in the Pacific Northwest, specializing in Garba, Raas, and Bollywood folk dance. Rang Rasiya performs at Rajasthani community events and corporate Diwali celebrations for Microsoft, Amazon, and F5. Their repertoire includes folk dance traditions that overlap with Rajasthani performance at community events. Note: There is no dedicated Rajasthani folk dance academy (Ghoomar, Kalbeliya) in Seattle — the community relies on RASA-organized performers and national folk artists invited for major celebrations.
